ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION BY CARS.

The average production of cars around the globe is close to 90 million. Which is a huge number, it means the car industry is making a good revenue out of it. Nevertheless the use of cars is also enormous. The pandemic year 2020 also had 78 million car production which shows the ultimate demand of this market. Even though there was a shortage of supplies and many car manufacturers stepped back, but total car production was impressive.

So much of new car means an equal or even more amount of used cars. Which is aiding in the environmental as well as land pollution on the planet.

How are cars contributing to environmental pollution?

Used cars that are not in a condition to use again are scrapped and this is increasing the scrap cars in Rugby too. Here are a few ways the cars are increasing environmental pollution on the earth:

Carbon dioxide emission

The transport industry is the biggest culprit behind increasing the amount of carbon dioxide in the air and being the biggest contender in air pollution. High CO2 emissions cause the greenhouse effect, which is the phenomenon that is causing increased heat in the planet. The excessive gas emission causes an atmospheric bubble that traps the sun’s heat and in turn hypes global warming.

Particulate matter

Particulate matter is a mixture of few solid particles mixed liquid particles that are emitted from cars. This particulate matter is dangerous for the lungs as they can cause serious damage to the lungs and they also are responsible for creating the atmospheric haze in the air. Other than damaging the lungs the particulate matter also has the ability to enter in to your bloodstream and block the arteries.

Nitrogen dioxide emission

The transport industry has also produced a lot of nitrogen dioxide in the air. The nitrogen and oxygen react when the fuel burns and this is released in the air which is a great hazard for the lungs and the respiratory system. Plus the nitrogen dioxide and other hydrocarbons combined make the ozone which is creating holes in the ozone layer. This in turn is causing smog, respiratory problems, and skin problems.

Junk production

The over production of cars is leading to more and more junk cars each year. Usually people junk their cars and they are sold to third world countries. But some countries don’t even bother to sell them, in fact they are crushing those cars to recycle them. The process involves dismantling the cars sometimes to take out the working parts like car dismantlers in Rugby do. This makes me think that I can junk my car in Rugby so that they can be recycled.

Conclusion

The transport industry is making progress by leaps and bounds but the industry needs to be more responsible towards the environment also. There needs to be less production of cars or production of sustainable and greener cars. This will help in reducing the environmental pollution and reduce the air and land pollution as well.
